We had an incredible stay at this hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and stress-free. The location is also unbeatable – centrally located with easy access to major attractions and transport links. What truly set this hotel apart, though, was the exceptional care and attention we received from the staff. My wife was in her first trimester of pregnancy and unfortunately became unwell after a long flight. The hotel staff immediately stepped in to help, offering us ginger tea to help with her nausea and making sure she was as comfortable as possible. They even allowed us to use their phone to contact the airline and rearrange our flights without any hesitation – a gesture that truly saved us from a lot of stress. Another highlight was the breakfast, which was not only delicious but also handled with impressive attention to detail. One morning, the staff noticed that we weren’t eating the vegetarian sausage that came with our meal. Without us even mentioning it, they kindly asked if we would like to replace it with something else. This level of thoughtfulness and attention to detail really stood out and made us feel genuinely cared for. Throughout our stay, the staff consistently checked in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. Their warmth and genuine care made a huge difference in our experience. If you’re looking for a hotel with top-notch service, a convenient location, and staff who truly care about their guests, this is the place to stay. We will absolutely be returning on our next trip!

During our tour of Japan, we wanted to experience a more traditional style of Japanese accommodation. Takasegawa Bettei, is a 'ryokan' (villa) style property on a quiet residential street. On arrival we received the warmest welcome from very helpful, kimono wearing, English speaking staff who taught us about the etiquette of wearing 'uwabaki' slippers everywhere inside the building. The bedrooms were modest but gorgeous with wood panelling, paper blinds, 'zaizu' chairs, and lcaquerwear ornaments. The bathroom was wood panelled with a traditional cypress wood bath and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Yet we had all the mod-cons with good wi-fi connection, amazing automatic bathroom, flat screen TV, fridge, safe, tea/coffee making facilities and light switches and sockets in all the right places etc. Most importantly the large bed was comfortable. The location was great with the historic district of Gion about 15 minutes walk away including the Kyoto National Museum and numerous temples. It was easy to reach the centre of Kyoto on foot or via Shichijo station (2 stops on the Keihan line). There were plenty of good places to eat nearby plus 2 very good craft beer micro- breweries within a couple of minutes walk from the front door! We really couldn't recommend this place more.

I can't say enough great things about this property! The location is good. It is about a 15 minute walk from the Shinkansen train station. It is located along a small creek on a quiet back road in a neighborhood that is absolutely delightful to walk around and explore. There are many great restaurants and services nearby, including restaurants, shops, and coin laundry. The subway is a very short walk away. The main shopping district is about a 15-20 minute walk away. The hotel staff were some of the most warm, personable, and kindest folks I have ever met. They made us feel welcome and special from the moment we walked into their facility. The rooms were beautiful and the views of the surrounding neighborhood and mountains in the distances were very quaint. I love the traditional ryokan vibes, but with modern comfort. The cypress bath tubs were stunning. And the room was so big! My friend ordered the traditional Japanese breakfast and raves about it constantly. We ended up buying ourselves the yukatas from this place so we can put them on and remember our time here. This place is special

Very nice, quiet location on the side of a small canal, very close to the Kamo river, less than 15 minutes walk from Kyoto Station (with lots of bags!). Easy access to many mainstream Kyoto attractions either on foot or via railway/bus (5 minutes away). New building with large, bright, well-appointed room and well-designed bathroom. Tatami floor and very comfortable Western-style bed. Kind and helpful staff who speak good English, remember you by name and know your room number if you ask for anything. Super-fast and cheap (for a hotel!) laundry service. Room service for breakfast. Excellent quality toiletries (L'Occitaine), and complimentary mineral water, Nespresso capsules and green tea refilled every day. Good electricals and excellent wifi, with some thinking about how people use hotels: they have provided a little phone power charger with cabling for micro-USB, USB-C and Apple/Lightning. No messing about with adaptors, finding chargers buried in suitcases, or finding that the charger doesn't work with Japanese sockets or voltage.

This is a fantastic hotel. Traditional but so comfortable and whisper quiet. The rooms are huge and we loved the bath and breakfast too. The staff were incredibly helpful and ordered us Taxi so easily. I was unwell during my stay and they were very attentive and let us check in early which is absolutely not normal practice so this was much appreciated. The cute canal out the front has a gorgeous cafe and a delicious Lebanese fusion gem of a restaurant very close by so a fabulous option when wanting to say close by for lunch or dinner. The staff are really excellent and make your stay so easy. The philosopher's path was the most beautiful experience of our trip as the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Go early .. 9 am is ok and enjoy this magical experience…actually quite surreal.
